The St Albans Saints were defeated five nil by a full-strength Hume City outfit at Churchill Reserve on Sunday afternoon.
Several early injuries have put a dampener on the beginning of the squad’s return to the NPL after a disappointing opening round loss to Avondale FC.
However, Dinamo sought to redeem themselves in their first home clash of the season against a consistent Hume City whom have former Whittlesea Ranges striker Attila Ofli spearheading the attack.
Indeed, their prowess was evident from the opening whistle as they took the lead within the opening minute via an un-marked Ofli strike into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal.
The visitors soon doubled their advantage at the three-minute mark with midfielder Daniel Clark weaving his way around goalkeeper Chris May to score into an open net.
Dinamo’s lack of on-pitch communication and marking at times, allowed un-wanted spaces to form which were easily exploited.
Hume City restricted the movement of the Saints, as their pressure combined with their physicality only permitted the hosts of sporadic moments of possession and momentum.
The hosts’ rushed play saw several long balls used which had little to no effect in finding Rodrigo Covarrubias whom was continually marked by numerous players.
Jean Solorzano provided his side with the best opportunity of the half when his header from a Daniel Chaabani cross travelled wide of the near post.
Unfortunately for Dinamo, the deficit did not remain at two with Ofli scoring his second prior to the break to give his squad a three-goal advantage.
Hume City’s dominance continued in the second as they remained steadfast in defence while transitioning quickly into attack.
Chaabani had the only clear cut chance for his squad in the second, with his strike hitting the crossbar.
Yet it was the opposition’s Liam Boland whom scored a brace to give his side a five-nil result and secure the three points.
For the Saints it was a matter of the match being over before it really began, with only limited attempts on goal.
Dinamo will next clash with Heidelberg United on Saturday evening.
